Gould Livestock

The livestock operation is a farrow-to-wean swine operation consisting of 750 females producing 17,000 piglets annually. The piglets are sold to another local hog operation. Additionally, we have the ability to finish hogs for custom processing. Fill your freezer with locally grown pork!

We go to great lengths to ensure our animals enjoy the greatest comfort.  All our pigs stay warm, stay dry, and are well-fed and watered.  We take great care of our animals because it’s the right thing to do, but also because it’s how they’re the most productive.

We use multiple techniques to make sure we’re following the best production techniques in the industry:

  • Regular visits by our veterinarian who can make suggestions on how to improve pig comfort, pig health, and overall productivity.

  • Regular training and qualification by all employees.  All workers have been certified through the Pork Quality Assurance, Plus program.  PQA Plus is an industry certification program that ensures U.S. pork products are safe and of the highest quality, and that the animals are cared for humanely.  For more information, see the pork.org web site.

  • Additionally, all workers have been certified in the Transport Quality Assurance Program.  Transport Quality Assurance is a program that helps swine transporters, producers, and handlers understand how to move and transport pigs and the potential impacts of those actions on pig well-being and/or pork quality. For more information, see the pork.org web site.

We practice sustainable production techniques by recycling the hog manure as fertilizer for the crops.  Manure is tested and applied in appropriate amounts to raise subsequent crops without being a detriment to the environment.  We’ve been recycling since before recycling was cool!
